This post is really just for my notes but hey, someone might find it useful.

Luckily I have a Lenovo X250 laptop running Linux with a SD card reader. You may need some sort of reader to do this.

First insert the micro SD card into your Linux box, however you go about this may vary. On my machine the device is here;

/dev/mmcblk0

Download raspbian from the usual place. Unzip it and then write it so your SD card.

[email protected] ~ $ unzip 2017-03-02-raspbian-jessie-lite.zip
[email protected] ~ $ dd bs=4M if=2017-03-02-raspbian-jessie-lite.img of=/dev/mmcblk0
[email protected] ~ $ sudo dd bs=4M if=2017-03-02-raspbian-jessie-lite.img of=/dev/mmcblk0

Once complete, it will take a little while, unplug the card and put it back in again. This will mount the SD card on your Linux machine. Now you just need to setup wifi and enable SSH.
